The Life of Daisy Ditzy Do

What is with boys?!

I spent last weekend in Texas visiting my BFF Traci. Before this trip Traci and I planned an 'outing' with her husband, Robert, and his friend, Rick. Rick spent a lot of time hanging out with us during my trip in December. We had a really good time together then and figured we would all have fun again. Going into this weekend I was not really sure if this was 4 people hanging out or a double date. Friday night Traci picked me up from the airport. We went from there to the bowling alley for league night. (Robert, Rick and Traci are bowlers) Traci, Rick and I sat in the tables just off the lanes having a great time. We were having so much fun and laughing so hard that people were staring. When the bowling was done Rick did something that led me to believe this was a date sort of weekend. He paid for my drinks. Am I wrong to take that as a sign? After some more hoopla in the parking lot Traci, Robert and I headed home.

Saturday, the day of the 'outing', Traci and I were getting ready to go when Robert told us that Rick had called to let us know he maybe a little late. Traci talked to Robert privately for a few minutes then returned to the getting ready. After Robert left the house for an errand Traci filled me in on what (to the best of her knowledge) was going on. She told me Rick had been helping a friend through a rough break up with an abusive boyfriend and that she'd shown up at his house upset that he was going out with some girl from California. We kept getting ready and talked about how weird this woman is to show up like that. Rick showed up right on time and said everything was fine. We headed out. First stop, a couple of museums. Rick and I walked together, a bit apart from Traci and Robert. We had a great time talking and poking a little fun at the modern so called art. All along doing flirty sorts of things like playfully nudging, standing very close together and making lots of smiling eye contact. (does that sound silly? that stuff's flirty right?) Oh, and there was an admission for the first museum and Rick paid mine. After a stop at a far less amusing, more traditional art museum we went to dinner. The flirtatious behavior continued all through dinner. It was not the fanciest place but the steaks did get a little pricy, so I contributed to the dinner check. Oh! Oh! I have left out that all afternoon Robert was in a pissy mood. This is not all that unusual for Robert so we all just tried work with it. After dinner we decided on a movie. Rick again paid my way in. We sat next to each other sharing candy and continuing to nudge flirtatiously. After the movie we went back to Traci and Robert's house. There, we decided to meet up again Sunday afternoon before I went home. He gave me his phone number and we said goodnight. A little while later I sent him a text message thanking him for the evening and letting him know I had a good time. He replied with much the same thing. A few more chatty texts were exchanged and then I called it a night.

Sunday, after meeting up with another friend that has moved to Texas, I called Rick and made plans to meet for some bowling and dinner. This time he had his daughter with him so, it was Traci, Rick, the daughter and me. The bowling fell through so we decided to just go eat and chat at a burger place. After some food, chat and video games Rick got a call from his X. She was much earlier then Rick expected. He had to take his daughter back to the X. Traci and I stayed at the restaurant to chat until we had to go to the airport. She and Robert have had some issues lately. She joked that either she and Robert are moving back to San Diego or Rick and I are getting married and I am moving to Texas. We laughed and continued to enjoy our fries and chat. Minutes after Rick was out the door I got a text message saying that he was sorry he had to leave so early and that he'd had a really good time. More texts followed making plans to go out again next time I come out. Traci and I both thought this was good and that maybe something could be starting up. Wouldn't you?

So I am at the airport waiting for my delayed flight when I see something that is sort of an inside joke between Rick and I. So I sent him a text message about it. We laughed and kept chatting. After a few messages I told him Traci's joke about moving or Rick and I marrying. His response, "I don't think my girlfriend would like that". GIRLFRIEND!? What?!

Is this guy kidding?! Of course the girlfriend is the woman that had come over to the house on Saturday to try to stop him from going out. I may have said this already but... GIRLFRIEND?! What!? He'd been telling Traci and Robert that he was not intrested in getting involved with her because of the baggage she comes with. (two kids under two, fathered by the abusive X)

What is with these BOYS?!

This is the second time in two months that this sort of thing has happened. The other guy was someone that I've known for several months now. The flirting had reached the point where when we talked he was asking me why I had to live so far away from him (only 40 miles or so) and he was starting to stand with that try to look cool lean while he hinted around going out sometime. Then while talking about something he had been shopping for someone said "well, he has a girlfriend". What?! *ghaw* Boys!

What Is With These Boys?!

Oh! Oh! Oh! I almost forgot. Rick told Robert on Monday that being out with me that weekend was the most fun he'd ever had with a woman.
*ghaw* Boys!

I'm with ya sista!!! As I read your story, it raised my eyebrows... but I have to say I wasn't entirely shocked. Only because I feel like it's happened to me a couple of times. Do guys and girls "read" each other differently? I think maybe a little, but not THAT much!! I mean, come on!
Just hang in there. You'll meet somebody who will be obvious and honest from the start.
And just for the record, I think if he's paying for drinks and dinners, it sounds like a flippin' date to me. Not to mention the flirting.
AAAARRRRRRRRRRRGG!!!!
