I want my VH1

Does that mean I am getting old?

I still enjoy some shows on MTV. (There's another question... Is 20 10 too old to still enjoy MTV? Well, anyway...) I find myself watching VH1 more and more. Some have suggested that my new found admiration for VH1 means I am getting old. Others tell me VH1 is just as hip as MTV. (I am old just for using the word "hip" aren't I?)

There are certain MTV shows I find especially annoying.
Date My Mom ~ On this show three girls are competing to win a date by sending their mother out on a date their would be date. Then judging by the dates with each mother the guy chooses one of the girls to go out on a date with. That is just creepy. These moms flirt with these guys. It's creepy!

Next ~ This is another dating show. An RV loaded with 5 (I think) perspective dates follows a van carrying the one guy or girl they are competing for. One at a time the contestants come out of the RV. The goal is to be on a date with this guy or girl for as long as he or she will have you. There are various activities set up for the contestant and the date to participate in. When he or she has decided the contestant is not working out he or she says "next" and the contestant is sent back to the RV. Then the next contestant emerges from the RV to pick up the date already in progress. This continues until the date has spent an hour or so with a contestant and not given him/her the "next". The participants in this show are some of the most conceded, obnoxious and just plain rude people I have ever seen. Many of them holler "NEXT!" before the contestant gets more then ten feet from the RV. So judging people before you know anything about them is still alive and well, eh? Why would I want to watch this?

hhmmmmmm... Maybe it is MTV's dating shows I really don't like. Is that really how dating works these days. Is it all that crude?

When VH1 started it's World Series of Pop Culture, I wondered for a minute if they'd been reading my mind. My head is stocked full that useless knowledge. Do you know what actor, now known for his many movie rolls, played Alex Keaton's alcoholic uncle on one episode of Family Ties? I do!

My mind for pop culture also digs I Love The 70s, I Love The 80s and I Love The 90s. It is so funny to look back on what shaped our lives then. The things we thought were so cool are so darn funny now.

Have you seen Hogan Knows Best?! I was a little Hulkimaniac as a kid. Hogan Knows Best is sort of The Osbournes of VH1. The misses is a little nutty. The kids are spoiled but harmless and, of course, attractive. The Hulk is just so much fun to watch. He is way over protective of his children. He frequently goes as for as to spy on them. I like peeking into the home life of these celeb-ish folks.

In the morning I enjoy a Jump Start with their videos. I am finding MTV's videos to be too much offensive rap and hip hop. VH1's Jump Start has a more pop and rock line up.

So does my new found appreciation for VH1 mean I am old?
